Slumdog millionaire's success at the Academy awards was expected but it was not expected to be such a super hit. The movie was nominated for 10 oscars and it won 8 out of the 10.The movie swept the Oscars. The movie was selected as the best movie of the year and was also awarded the best adapted screenplay. A.R. Rahman won 2 Oscars for the movie. One for the background score and another for the original song. The movie won the cinematography, and sound mixing award too. Russel Pukutty became the third Indian to win an Oscar and ARR became the fourth. He spoke modestly and his reverence to almighty was evident in his speech.
