Scintillating Sourav
Sourav Ganguly will bat for team India one last time, in the second innings of the fourth test match between India and Australia in Nagpur. This will be Ganguly’s last international appearance. After having had a flourishing cricketing career, he has decided to hang his boots. He will be retiring just one match after, the then Indian captain Anil Kumble retired. Some feel that this is just not the right time for Sourav to retire from test cricket and that he still has some amount cricket left in him. He has come across a lot of ups and downs in his career. Not just as a player, he also had the privilege of captaining the Indian cricket team. He captained the Indian cricket team in both forms of the game, that is, Test cricket and One Day Internationals. He is the most successful captain and will always be remembered as the classic left handed cricketer. He was very strong in the off side and is often referred to as ‘The God of Offside’ and rightly so! He will always be remembered for his swinging his shirt after winning the Natwest series in England. That moment will be etched in the minds of millions of people as the best example for sheer exuberance!

Globalization and Culture
Globalization has had its effect all around the world. It has changed the global economy in a very remarkable way. Most downtrodden economies have improved drastically by means of global trade. Today economies arise as mushrooms do after a downpour. One indirect effect of globalization is the cultural impact it has in many countries. Surprising, isn’t it? How economy affects culture! If the economic condition of a country changes, the lifestyle of the people of that country also changes and this, in due course of time, affects the culture of the country. Large majorities of people in almost every country in the world feel that their traditional way of life is being lost. Although they welcome many aspects of globalization including the economic boom it brings to their country, most of the lot feel that their way of life should be protected against foreign influence. In the world of ideas, globalizing tendencies have long been in tension with local preferences. Though, people want to stick on to their local preferences, global exchanges apparently have the upper hand. But, whether it is religion, art, sport or for that matter, surfing on the net, the process has been complex and patchy, both in benefits it brings and the extent of the phenomenon!
